Are you in need of authentic Mexican Cuisine, but you have no idea where to go? Tortilleria Garcia offers a taste of Mexico in every bite. Owner Omar Garcia grew up in Michoacán, Mexico, where his family would grow corn to make masa, used to create tortillas.
The tradition of his mother and grandmother’s recipe is the secret behind Tortilleria Garcia. When Omar opened, the menu was simple; it consisted of tacos, tortillas, and onions, the traditional way tacos are in Mexico.
Originally Omar started in Springdale; it was carryout only, and the location was small. As time went on, the demand grew, Taco Tuesday’s became very popular. They eventually extended the dining room to the other side, slowly adding more items to the menu as the request continued. The menu grew from salsa, homemade tortilla chips, guacamole, nachos, and more.
Omar says, “As we grow, we come up with more things that include Chicken, beef, fish, shrimp, and vegan menu items. “
And to think it all started with a pack of tortillas from a grocery store. Omar knew it was a better way to get fresh tortillas and food. That’s when he put this concept together now with three locations in Springdale, College hill, and Mason.
Owning Tortilleria Garcia was important to Omar because he values having something of his own after working in restaurants; he used what he learned as a school, applying those same tools to grow Tortilleria Garcia into what it is today.
Tortilleria Garcia made a significant impact in the community and Omar’s family, providing them with opportunities that Omar could give back to through his hard work and dedication.
When asked what his favorite menu item was, Omar said the Chicken, tamales, and Caritas, which gives him a taste of home using his mother and grandmother’s recipe; Omar has created a legacy that will continue for years from Mexico to Cincinnati.
